ויגש - חופשת חורף

בס"ד

Dear Parents,
Good news!
My son in Israel had a baby girl (a new sister to Yair). I will be away for the week after winter break (Jan 3- Jan 10, 2014).
Morah Eva will teach first grade.
During my absence, there will be no Hebrew folder or books sent home.

Hebrew workbook:
This week we finished our workbook which teaches about the vowel with “Segol” and “Tseyrey”.

“Ariot 1 workbook”:
We finished “Ariot 1” workbook.
It was very easy because we had already learned so many of the vocabulary words and writing skills while doing our reading program. “ Ariot 1” was so fun when we challenged ourselves to figure out the words in the  “Hactava” (the spelling test at the end of each unit) and we were able to figure out the words without help. We can read all the Hebrew in it!  We were practicing Ariot I CD-ROM on the smart board in our classroom and in the computer lab  which includes the same stories and activities as in the workbook.

“My library” הַסִפְרִיָה שֶלִי "    ( Home work for  this week and for the vacation).
6 short stories from the Ariot workbook:  “shalom  ani Ariot”- p.11,  “Shabbat shalom”- p.21,   “Aba babayit”-P. 37,   “Gimmel bagan?”- P.54-56    “Dag?”- P.72-74 and “Efo HavHav? “-P.87-89.
Please encourage your child to read it aloud to you over the winter break. It is a great way to practice all the vocabulary we have learned in this unit.

Vacation reading:
In the folder you will find a list with the vowels we have learned.
The list is build up from Alef to Taf. It is very important to practice reading the words with the combination of that vowel, especially when it is in the same words.

Ariot:
This week Ariot is going with Morah Irit to Israel.

Parashat Hashavua:
This Friday you will find in your child’s folder a picture page with a summary of the story of Parashat: “ויגש – Vayigash. From our Parasha we have learned how important it is to be responsible for our siblings and for our family.
First Grade Album:
I still need two of the following pictures (4”x6”)
1. A picture of the outside of your child’s house.
2. A picture of your child’s family (a group picture of as many members of the family as possible).
These pictures are very important for our learning in the class!
You can Email me the picture and I will print it.

I wish you all חופשה נעימה – Chofsha Ne’ima (Have a nice vacation) and Shabbat Shalom from Morah Irit

These topics will accompany the students throughout the year, since they deal with the everyday life of the students.

1.    G-D could create the world in one day but he didn’t –we learn from hereif we want to do something and get a better result we need to take our time and not rush through our work.
2.    G-D stopped at the end of every day to check his work – we need to also check our work at the end. For example, when we finish an answer for a test we need to go over it and check if it is correct.

מכתב לחוברת יום כיפור

Dear Parents,
I’m sending home our “yom Kippur” work book to keep and review.

-We learned about two Mitzvot that we do before the fast.
1 Kaparot
2 Seudah Mafseket, also called the “feast before the fast.” We learned that it is a Mitzvah to eat.
-Yom Kippur is here and we know now exactly what to wear - white clothes like the angels. ( We wear white also because  white is clean and we want to be clean from “mistakes”) and what kind of shoes we can wear. Some people wear a kittel, a white robe-like garment for prayers on Yom Kippur
Five prohibitions of Yom Kippur
1.    No eating     2.  No drinking    3.  No wearing of leather shoes   4. No bathing or washing
5.     No perfumes or lotions
On Yom Kippur we are praying from a Siddur call “Machzor”
-Yom Kippur is the only day in the year when there are five prayer services. The evening service, containing the Ma'ariv prayer, is widely known as "Kol Nidre", the opening declaration made preceding the prayer. During the daytime, shacharit, musaf (which is recited on Shabbat and all festivals) and mincha are followed, as the sun begins to set, by Ne'ila, which is recited just this once a year.
-In the service there are two main stories we learn.
1 The Kohen Gadol entered the Holy of Holies (Kodesh Hakodashim)  in the center of the Holy Temple (Bet Hamikdash).
2 Jonah and the whale.
We made a book mark for the 5 prayer services that are mentioned above.
-We finish the Yom Kippur Prayer with the sound of the Shofar   - wishing that our prayers will be accepted.
-Right after Bet Knesset (synagogue) we run to start our first Mitzvah - building the sukkah.
-In order to encourage the student to do Mitzvot I’m sending home a Mitzvah checklist to fill in together with your child.
I wish you and your family a Gmar Hatimah Tovah!
Morah Irit Karavani.

P.S

I am sending  home the Hebrew workbook we finished so you can review with your child. Please keep this workbook at home.
