ויקרא 3.31.2017

Dear Parents,
We are very busy getting ready for Passover.
This week, we continued learning about “Pesach” (Passover). We almost finished making our own interactive Haggadot .
 We have reviewed the entire order of the Seder night as written in the Haggadah. We learned the names of the ten plagues in Hebrew and English. We also learned that the four cups of wine we drink at the Seder stand for the four different languages for redemption.
Of course, there is still more to learn! We will be spending a lot of time over the next week learning all the laws and customs surrounding the Seder night and Pesach.

Ariot:
 Ariot thanks all of the first grade families for the wonderful time he spent at your house.
You are welcome to see the Ariot pictures with the kids at the achievement fair, as well as what the students wrote about their experience with Ariot.

 Hebrew workbook:
This week we finished our workbook which teaches about the vowel “Holam” (the “O” sound). We learned to spell words with all four of the vowels we have learned (“Ah”, “Ei” ,“O” and “Eh”).
We are now learning the last vowel: Shoorok & Koobots (oo sound).
This means that soon we will finish our reading program. Wow!  

Cursive Hebrew letters:
We almost finished to learn how to write cursive Hebrew letters. The students focused on forming the letters correctly and reading words written in cursive script. We learned that there are 5 letters that do not start from the top.

This week’s book is called:"גילה שואלת מה נשתנה" -“Gilah is asking “Ma Nishtanah””
Please encourage your child to read it aloud to you over the weekend .It is a great way to practice all the vocabulary we have learned.

Parashat Hashavua:
This Friday you will find in your child’s folder a picture page with a summary of the story of Parashat :ויקרא"”. We learned that the Jews brought korbanot because the process of bringing a korban helped them become close to hashem.

3.24.2017

Dear Parents,
Chag HaSiddur was fabulous. I’m very proud of all my students. Thank you for coming.

The Siddur:
We got to pray today from our own siddur we received yesterday.
It was very exiting!
We added the beginning of the "Amidah" prayer (18 Shmone Esrei),
I'm sending the old Siddur to keep at home.


Passover:
This week, we started learning about “Pesach” (Passover). 
We were very busy making our own Haggadadot. Each of us will bring one home before Pesach. 
We learned that there are four names for Passover and the reason for each name. Of course, there is still a lot to learn! We will be spending a lot of time over the next few weeks learning all the laws and customs surrounding the Seder night and Pesach. 

Ariot: 
This week Ariot is going to Mendel’s home.

This week’s book is called:"אופס" -“Oops”
Please encourage your child to read it aloud to you over the weekend .It is a great way to practice all the vocabulary we have learned.

Parashat Hashavua:
This Friday you will find in your child’s folder a picture page with a summary of the story of Parashat : "ויקהל פקודי" We reviewed all the various vessels that are in the Mishkan and we learned that Bezalel was the one appointed by Hashem to build the Mishkan. We also learned that Moshe first warned them to keep the Shabbat before giving them the commandment to build the Mishkan. This told the Jewish People that even though the building of the Mishkan was important the still must rest on Shabbat are recognize that Hashem created the world.

שבוע לפני חג הסידור- כי תשא


Dear Parents,
Chag Hasiddur is almost here and we are very excited and looking forward to it.
Chag Hasiddur
We are continuing to practice our lines and our songs for our “Chag Hasiddur”.
I am sending home another copy of your child’s part to practice at home (in case you have lost it). Please make sure your child practices and learns his/her part by heart.
Siddur dedication- last chance!!!!
Please email me a short message to your child as a dedication for his /her siddur by Sunday 3.19.2017.
I’ll print it and put it in your child's siddur. 
Chag Hasiddur dress code:
Please dress your child in a blue or black skirt or pants and a white shirt.  Please do not send your child in a suit or a dress. 
Cursive Hebrew letters: 
We are continuing to learn how to write cursive Hebrew letters. The students focused on forming the letters correctly and reading words written in cursive script. This week, we reviewed the letters up to “כ”. We learned that there are 5 letters that do not start from the top and one of them is “ט”.
I am sending the first cursive workbook to keep and review at home.  
Ariot:
This week Ariot is going to Gabi’s home.
 “My library” הַסִפְרִיָה שֶלִי "   
This week’s story is:"יש גשם בחוץ"  (Yesh Geshem Ba’chotz)- there is rain outside.
This book is related to “Chag Hasiddur”  topic.
Please encourage your child to read it aloud to you over the weekend. It is a great way to practice all the vocabulary we have learned and will learn.
Parashat Hashavua:
This Friday you will find in your child’s folder a picture page with a summary of the story of Parashat :כי תשא"” we learned about the Mitzvah of giving a “Machatzit Hashekel” (1/2 shekel coin) to the Bait HaMikdash so they can count how many people there are in Bnei Yisrael . Ask your child to tell you why ½ and not whole Shekel? We learned that the Kohanim used this money to buy animals for the daily Korban (sacrifice) that was brought every morning and afternoon. We also reviewed the story of the “Aigel Hazahav” or the sin of the golden calf. Have your child tell you the story!

פורים 2017

Dear Parents,
Our Purim celebration was a big success! We had so much “simcha” (happiness) all day! We wore costumes, we enjoyed a magician and a performance of the Megilah story by the 6th grade,  and we played games in the Purim carnival. At the end of the day, we received Mishloach Manot " משלוח מנות". The whole day was such fun!
אוזני המן – Hamentashen
This week each student received a piece of dough and made his/her own Hamantashen " אוזן המן". It was yummy!
The Story of Purim
 I am very happy to bring you a special story, familiar to us all,
the story of Purim!
So what is the big deal? Well, this one is missing words and your child filled in all of the missing words.
Purim- Tal Am
We also finished our Purim unit which includes the Megillah story ( in Hebrew) about Esther and Mordechai and how they saved the Jews.
We learned a few Purim songs: ”Mishe Nichnas Adar (when Adar comes in - two different song), Hasipur Bamegillah” (The story in the Megillah), ”Letzan Katan Sheli” (My Little Clown), and “Leozen Haman Shalosh Pinot” (Hamentashen has 3 sides).

ראש חודש אדר 2017


Dear Parents,
Rosh Hodesh Adar started with great “simcha” (happiness)! We danced and wore funny hats It was a lot of fun!
Moreh Dror gave us Hamantashen " אֹזֶן המן " to eat.   It was very Yummy!
Siddur dedication:
Please email me this week, a short message to your child as a dedication for his /her new siddur.
I’ll print it and put it in your child's siddur. 
Purim:
We started the story of the Megillah. Next week we will place it in our “Pringels” can. (Only if I have enough cans).
Please keep sending more “Pringels” cans.
Cursive Hebrew letters:
We are continuing to learn how to write cursive Hebrew letters. The students focused on forming the letters correctly and reading words written in cursive script. This week, we reviewed the letters up to “ה”.
Homework:
Some children are still having trouble getting their homework notebook back to school on time.
Please make sure your child is writing his/her homework with pencil only!
Please make sure the homework notebook in placed  back into your child’s  backpack.
It is extremely important to have it in class on time, otherwise I can’t post their homework.

This week Ariot is going to Asher’s home.
Parashat Hashavua:
This Friday you will find in their folder a picture page with a summary of Parashat: “תרומה” we learn that the Hebrew word "תרומה" -(Terumah) means to give a present (contribution). We went over all the different things that were in the Mishkan including: the Mizbayach, the kiyor, the menorah, the shulchan, the mizbayach haZahav.
